How stamp duty on £560,000 is worked out
Here's the calculation for a property bought by a company bought for £560,000. Each rate only applies to the slice of the price inside its band, and every rate includes the 5% additional property surcharge:
- 5% on £125,000 (up to £125,000) = £6,250
- 7% on £125,000 (£125,001 – £250,000) = £8,750
- 10% on £310,000 (£250,001 – £925,000) = £31,000
Total stamp duty: £46,000, an effective rate of 8.21% of the purchase price.
This assumes the company qualifies for relief, for example because it will let the property as part of a rental business. Without relief, companies pay a flat 17% on homes over £500,000: £95,200 here.
